There’s just something extremely satisfying about opening a bottle of wine. Maybe it’s the satisfying sound the cork makes as it pops out, or the knowledge that you’re about to enjoy a nice glass of wine.

No matter what your reason is, opening a bottle of wine isn’t as hard as you might think. Here are some tips to help you open a bottle like a pro.

5 Ways to Open a Bottle of Wine Like a Pro

1. Using a corkscrew

You don’t need to be a sommelier to know how to open a bottle of wine. In fact, anyone can do it with the right tools and a little bit of practice.

With a corkscrew, you can easily remove the cork from a wine bottle without damaging the wine or the bottle. There are two main types of corkscrews: helix and spiral.

Helix corkscrews have a metal coil that goes around the cork, while spiral corkscrews have a metal spiral that goes down the centre of the cork.

To use a helix corkscrew, start by inserting the metal coil into the top of the cork. Then, twist the corkscrew clockwise until the coil is fully inserted. Next, twist the corkscrew counter clockwise to remove the cork from the bottle.

To use a spiral corkscrew, start by inserting the metal spiral into the top of the cork. Then, twist the corkscrew clockwise until the spiral is fully inserted. Next, twist the corkscrew counter clockwise to remove the cork from the bottle.

With either type of corkscrew, be sure to go slowly and carefully so that you don’t break the cork or damage the wine bottle. With a little practice, you’ll be opening bottles of wine like a pro in no time.

2. Using a wine key

If you’re like most people, you may be unsure how to open a bottle of wine without making a mess, but it’s not as difficult as it looks, especially if using a wine key.

The first step is to remove the foil from the top of the bottle. You can do this with your fingers or with a knife, but be careful not to cut yourself. Once the foil is off, you’ll see the cork.

To open the bottle, you’ll then use a wine key. This is a tool that has a small blade on one end and a curved lever on the other. To use it, insert the blade into the space between the cork and the bottle. Then, put the lever over the top of the cork and push it down. The cork should pop out easily.

3. Using a screwdriver

Opening a bottle of wine can be daunting, especially if you don’t have the right tools. But with a screwdriver, it’s actually quite simple. Just follow these easy steps and you’ll be opening bottles like a pro in no time.

Start by removing the foil from the top of the bottle. If there’s a wire cage holding the cork in place, you can leave that for now. Next, find a screwdriver that fits snugly into the space between the cork and the neck of the bottle.

It’s important that the screwdriver is a good fit, otherwise, you run the risk of breaking the glass. Gently insert the screwdriver into the space and twist it clockwise. You should feel the cork start to loosen as you do this.

Once the cork is loosened, you can remove it from the bottle by gently pulling it out with your fingers. And that’s it! Just remember to be careful when inserting the screwdriver into the neck of the bottle, and always twist it clockwise to avoid breaking the glass.

4. Using a knife

Did you know that you can use a knife to open a bottle of wine? It’s true! Opening a bottle of wine with a knife is actually quite easy, and it’s a great way to impress your friends at your next dinner party.

Here’s how to do it.

Start by placing the knife blade against the side of the wine bottle, just below the bottle’s neck. Then, holding the knife in place with one hand, use your other hand to twist the bottle until the knife blade pops the cork out of the bottle.

That’s it! You’re now a pro at opening wine bottles with a knife. Now that you know how to do it, why not give it a try next time you’re opening a bottle of wine? You might just surprise your guests with your new skills.

5. Using a shoe

When you’re ready to open a bottle of wine, there’s no need to go hunting for a corkscrew. Just grab a shoe from your closet and use it to open the bottle like a pro. If you don’t have a shoe handy, any other firm object will do, such as a hammer or a mallet.

Simply place the bottom of the shoe against the neck of the wine bottle and hit the heel of the shoe with your other hand. The impact will drive the cork straight out of the bottle.

If you want to be extra fancy, you can even use two shoes: one to hold the bottle steady and the other to strike it. This method is often used by professional wine openers. With a little practice, you can open a bottle of wine with a shoe in just a few seconds.
