HHC Vs. CBN: Here Are The Differences

Every day new cannabinoid products are introduced in the market. They catch consumers’ eyes on them. But do you hesitate to use them? No one can consume any products without having proper knowledge about them. With advancements in technology, many semi-synthetic cannabinoids are available in the market.

We call it semi-synthetic because we obtain natural products from cannabis or hemp plants. Further addition of chemical groups occurs to enhance their potency. Due to this addition, it becomes more useful for various purposes. The popularity of HHC is increasing day by day. Are you confused about this recreational drug? Do you think they are the same things?

If yes, then you are wrong? Although they share the same raw material, they differ from one another. Let us explore more about the two Compounds and understand the difference.

HHC – let’s explore it

When we hydrolyze THC, the product formed is called tetrahydrocannabinol. In short, we call it HHC. As we derive the product from THC, it is much more potent compared to Delta 8 and Delta 9. A moderate dosage of this recreational drug can induce euphoria like THC, but it is much more calming and possesses better sedative quality. This drug is considered both natural and semi-synthetic depending on the manufacturing process.

Studies find little trace of this compound found in cannabis plants. But the quality is so low that it cannot fulfill the elfin things of people. Due to this reason, the manufacturers have to hydrolyze THC. It is a simple process. Manufacturers take THC and then saturate it with hydrogen ions in the presence of zinc and nickel. Zinc and nickel act as a catalyst that catalyzes the process of THC Hydrogenation.

When THC hydrolyses, it gets converted into a much more stable product. The Hydrogenation process alters the molecular structure of THC. Hence the final product is referred to as semi-synthetic by people.

Benefits of HHC

You may wonder why the product needs to hydrolyze; is the product better than THC? Is it only different from THC by structure? Why is everyone talking about it? Is it really Much more research is needed to know many of its hidden benefits. For now, we will discuss the proven benefits.

They mainly researched animals. But it proves that it possesses anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. Another benefit of HHC includes

  • Relieving anxiety
  • Euphoria
  • Provides relaxation
  • Reduction in inflammation
  • Improves sleep cycle
  • Fights depression
  • Reduces pain
  • Stimulate appetite

Let’s know about CBN

CBN is the new drug in the market. As it is not as popular as CBD, it’s slowly gaining clarity. It is much weaker than other cannabinoids like THC. Do you know the reason behind it? The weaker potency is because cannabis plants get converted into CBN when it ages. It led to the formation of this less potent but highly beneficial drug. It is a mild chemical and 25% less potent than THC. It is psychoactive. Hence cause euphoric effects if consumed in large dosage.

As there is limited research associated with this Cannabidiol, there are still some outstanding benefits associated with it.

  • Helpful in the treatment of insomnia. It’s mainly because of its sedative properties.
  • It provides relief from pain. A study on rats highlighted that it is effective in conditions like fibromyalgia. It concluded that pain-relieving properties. Its effectiveness increases when consumed with CBD.
  • Possess neuroprotective properties. In a study of 2005, we saw that it is helpful in the medicaments of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. However, more research is necessary for this area.

Difference between HHC and CBN

From the above statements, it is clear that HHC is much different from CBN. Even though we get both the compounds from the Compound THC, there is much difference observed. The first one is a semi-synthetic compound. At the same time, the other one is a naturally occurring substance. The first drug is present in cannabis plants in negligible amounts. And the other one is present in an ample amount in all the old cannabis plants. It formed due to the aging of the cannabis plant. And HHC is manufactured in laboratories.

You do not need an extra chemical to create CBN. At the same time, hydrogen ions are necessary for the HHC. The two compounds differ in physical as well as molecular structure. Both the drugs share similarities with THC but still possess some unique bindings. In HHC, the double bonds of THC are replaced by hydrogen bonding. But when we see CBN, we observe two additional bonds on its molecular structure. The hexahydro cannabinol binds effectively with CB1 receptors. Hence causes an intense euphoric effect. At the same time, CBN shows a much weaker affinity to CB1 receptors. Hence provides a much weaker effect compared to THC. But it can also cause euphoric effects if consumed in large amounts.

Is it legal to buy HHC online?

After gaining much information regarding these two beneficial compounds, you want to check them out. You may have wondered, is it legal to buy the product? After all, THC is responsible for its manufacture. But it’s normal to get confused about its legality status. Fortunately, the answer is yes.

The farm bill states that any cannabis product containing 0.3% of THC is legal. The naturally occurring HHC compounds contain less than 0.3% THC, hence fully legal. Hence, it is reliable to buy products only from an authentic store. As we know, contaminated drugs may cause various side effects.

Final word

Both of the compounds come from THC. But they are inverse to each other. HHC can be prepared manually by adding hydrogen ions. Adding hydrogen ions makes it more potent than compounds like Delta 8 and Delta-9. On the other hand, CBD occurs naturally in cannabis plants. When the plant ages, the THC present gets converted into CBN. It is much less potent than THC but offers some reliable benefits.
