Alan is our resident self-awareness expert. In a talk he gave at the end of last year, Alan shared some startling and revealing information about how we think and feel about ourselves, and the ways that these thoughts and feelings affect our behavior. He concluded that while it’s easier to be self-aware than it might seem, self-awareness is not an easy thing to maintain for long. We also learned that our self-awareness is in fact a skill that we can improve over time.

Alan’s point about thinking “I’m not me” is a big one. We often use our identity to control our behavior, but that control is often ineffective. We often think, “I’m not one of those people who needs to be validated by others. I’m ok as I am,” but this perspective can be problematic.

The problem is that we often compare ourselves to others, rather than seeing each other as humans that we are. We often think that we are different, but we are not. Im not different from anyone else. I have the same brain as any of you. Im not different than anyone else. Im exactly like you. I have the same brain, and I know everything you know. Im not different than anyone else. I have the same brain and I know everything you know.

This is the problem. People who are very close to the same, but not identical, are also very “different” from each other. We’re only talking about the small part of our brains that is shared with us all, but this is often the part that makes us the most unique. We often believe that our brains have one “universal” way of doing things.

It’s a very different story than you’re thinking. It’s not about who you are. It’s about what you do and why you do it. If we keep the pieces in our heads, we’ll have no problem at all. Because it’s your brain, and you have all your brain-meets-meets-other brains.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when you’re thinking of learning to code is that it’s about how you work. A lot of programmers think that coding is about programming, because they don’t have an understanding of programming. But most of us have a way of thinking about coding, and it’s the brain that’s able to think about it, and then learn how to code. It’s the brain who works, not the software.

The problem is that programming is not as intuitive as coding, as programming is often more than just code. Coding is not a programming, and people think that it is. The idea that coding is a programming is a misconception built into programming languages.
